The Writer

expanding worlds, evolving words

Candice Lopez-Quimpo is a writer, editor and entrepreneur who prefers to blur the lines between writing and living.

After graduation from university with a degree in business, Candice Lopez-Quimpo took an unexpected turn into the world of editorial and publishing. It began with a freelance assignment to review a book for an urban living guide from which she emerged with an itch—she had been bitten by the writer’s bug. The publication became her first employer, for whom she and two co-editors were tasked to put together an online lifestyle portal. Her degree in BS Management from the Ateneo de Manila University had trained her for an entrepreneurial mindset which could easily have translated into a traditional business venture. Instead, Candice has been seen wearing various hats as she has handled rock bands, staged events, worked with editorial staffs, even helped put up a socio-political organization aimed to oust corrupt government officials.

One thing has remained constant, however, and that is to stick to the path to writing. As a freelance writer and editor, she brings with her eight years of editorial and publishing experience. She has covered a range of subject matter, from lifestyle pieces, to personality profiles, to marketing articles. Through her words and works, she aims to bring out new insights and experiences to the reading public that are both enjoyable and relevant.

Many of Candice’s articles and assignments reflect the stages in life that she would be undergoing; she believes, after all, that she should write about the things that she knows about, or at least about those she can learn about. As such, life experiences not only broaden her views on the world but also expand her subjects of interests as an editor-writer.

These days, Candice is working out another act on the balancing beam: straddling new life roles as entrepreneur, marketing communications consultant, and hands-on mom to a fast-growing toddler. Finally heeding an innate inclination for business, she is forging a marriage between the entrepreneurial and the editorial as Managing Director and Editorial Director for a communications consultancy firm.

Marriage and motherhood has also recently opened her to new realities for which she has adopted new personas: a blogger for Mum in the Metro, which talks about life and learning as a mother in this day and age; a scriptwriter and producer for her joint venture with her director husband, and a book editor for commissioned parenting books that conveniently and serendipitously required her nappy-changing experience to be placed at the forefront of her skillset.
